Background:
Currently in the NHS Data Model and Dictionary where an item is due to be replaced with an item with a more recent definition, the notes states:

SMOKING STATUS CODE is the same as attribute SMOKING STATUS.
Code '9 - Unknown' is not a valid code in the NHS Health Checks Data Set.
SMOKING STATUS CODE replaces SMOKING STATUS and should be used for all new and developing data sets and for XML messages.SMOKING STATUS will be replaced with SMOKING STATUS CODE, which is the most recent approved national information standard to describe the required definition.
