A formal contract between one or more COMMISSIONER ORGANISATIONS IN NHS SERVICE CONTRACT and one Health Care Provider for the provision of PATIENT care SERVICES.
SERVICES may be commissioned in two ways:
- Nationally, arranged through the direct commissioning functions and processes of NHS England
- By Integrated Care Boards, acting individually or as part of a commissioning consortia.
The costs of an NHS SERVICE CONTRACT accrue to the ORGANISATION or ORGANISATIONS responsible for commissioning the ACTIVITY.
For Commissioning Data Set messages the commissioner is identified in ORGANISATION CODE (CODE OF COMMISSIONER) / ORGANISATION IDENTIFIER (CODE OF COMMISSIONER).
Note: NHS SERVICE AGREEMENT has been renamed to NHS SERVICE CONTRACT.
